The Scottish Government has reappointed The Union alongside Tangible and Consolidated PR to handle its annual Organ Donation Campaign.

The Union will handle above-the-line, with Tangible taking the direct marketing responsibilities.

Consolidated PR will wok with a £35,000 budget for the media relations and communications aspects.

The Union has worked on the campaign for the last three years, while PR was previously delivered by The Big Partnership.

The £300,000 budget for year one will be shared across the advertising, field and direct marketing aspects of the campaign with an additional £35,000 allocated to PR.

Around 8000 people in the UK will need a transplant of some sort in the near future.

UK Transplant’s website documents the cost-saving to the NHS for a kidney transplant versus ongoing dialysis as £214k per patient. The cost saving from two kidney transplants (£428k) would outweigh the £335k spent to boost registrations.

Roger Williams, head of marketing for the Scottish Government said, ‘This is a genuinely integrated campaign which must provide compelling motivation to break the barriers to registration and accelerate sign-up numbers. Every year, 1000 people in the UK die while waiting for a transplant. This campaign’s measurement is transparent; by generating registrations it increases the potential to save lives, and in turn delivers a substantial cost-saving to the NHS.

“We have learnt from working closely with NHS Blood and Transplant (UK) colleagues that we need to optimise and amplify messages for Scotland. With the combined power of advertising, field marketing, PR and Direct Mail we aim to increase significantly the number of Scots on the Organ Donation register.”
