UK marketing agency Kindred has announced that Paul Armstrong has been appointed as social media director.

Armstrong joins the agency in the new role having returned to the UK after six years in California where he most recently managed integrated marketing and communication strategies at MrSpace.

Previous to this he was an associate at Burston-Marsteller Los Angeles where he oversaw brand and digital strategy for Sony and Activision. He has also worked on a variety of accounts including Yahoo!, 20th Century Fox, DreamWorks and THQ Wireless.

Armstrong said: “Kindred attracted me as it is an agency that believes, as I do, that integration between the communication disciplines offers the full package to clients. During an unprecedentedly challenging time for the communications industry, it’s imperative to see the whole picture and how each connects and overlaps as new mediums emerge and existing ones evolve. ”

Laura Oliphant, managing director of Kindred commented: “Paul’s world-class experience speaks for itself and he was hotly pursued on his return to the UK, so we’re obviously delighted that he has chosen Kindred. The majority of our clients see social media as core to their campaigns as the lines between these disciplines are becoming increasingly blurred. Paul is therefore a very exciting and strategically important hire for us. “
