Manchester post-production house 422 is putting the finishing touches to British action thriller Kandahar Break, the debut feature film from north-west director David Whitney.

It is the first time 422, best known for TV commercials, has worked on a feature film. The company is now finishing post production duties which include video FX, titles, grading, online and audio.

Bolton-born Whitney has previously directed corporate films and adverts for clients including The Co-Operative Bank, Siemens and Morgan Stanley.

He has also made two short films, Taken Out and George’s Day for his production company Millhouse Films.

Kanadahar Break stars Dean Andrews, best known for roles in Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes and Shaun Dooley who has appeared in Red Riding, Mobile and Warriors.

It focuses on a British mine clearance engineer working for the Taliban government in Afghanistan in 1999 who tries to flee the country when he becomes involved in a game of intrigue and betrayal.

The film was shot over five weeks on location near the Afghanistan border in Pakistan, although six days from completion the production was forced to close when gunmen attacked four local crew members. All four survived and filming was completed in Tunisia.

Whitney said: "The shooting of the film was fraught with difficulties and obstacles, and the only thing that got us through it was the tight bond that my British team and the local crew developed over the course of the five weeks in the desert.

"Working with 422 on the post-production stage is a much calmer and more pleasant experience than the shoot itself. I am thrilled with the passion and enthusiasm of the team here at 422, and they have really invested their time and energy into crafting a piece of work that we can all be proud of."
