The South West Regional Development Agency has appointed creative business network Bristol Media to handle its regional industry experts and ensure their companies survive the recession.

To ensure this work is carried out, Bristol Media will receive part of a £1.7million investment and will see talent matched with opportunity for the creative and digital communication as well as across aerospace and engineering industries.

The redeployment service scheme, which will launch in August, will be known as TARDIS (Talent Attraction, Retention and Development In the South west).

It will look to increase the chances of highly skilled and talented creative people, who may be at risk of redundancy, finding alternative work or training. At the same time it will help to retain their skills and reduce the possibility of the region losing these key individuals.

It is understood that approximately £76m is lost to the South West economy every year due to hard-to-fill vacancies and it is hoped the new initiative will help curb this trend.

Mike Bennett, CEO, Bristol Media explained: “The key aim of the TARDIS project is to pool talent in order to redeploy and retain skills and jobs across our region’s key economic sectors, of which the creative and digital industry is one.”

Bennett continued: “Bristol Media is already well-established in the region and we’ll use this to help the RDA deliver the goals of the scheme by engaging with employers, employees and other stakeholders across our 3000-strong network and beyond.

“We are still exploring the programmes available following this appointment, and we will be moving quickly to keep companies in the region up to date with the strategy for this investment.”
