Design consultancy 999 and Fair Trade fashion pioneer People Tree have produced an exclusive tour
t-shirt for top British band Keane.

The collaboration marks the first time that People Tree has produced a t-shirt for a band.

Keane, who have made a commitment to ensuring their merchandise and packaging is ethical where possible, asked People Tree to create the limited edition t-shirt in a bid to make more of their business Fair Trade.

Subsequently, People Tree approached 999 to provide the creative for separate male and female versions of the product, taking inspiration from Keane’s current Perfect Symmetry album artwork.

The joint venture follows a partnership last year when the ethical label asked 999’s to design six t-shirts for its spring / summer 2009 menswear collection.

The eco-white t-shirts were fashioned in India by Assisi garments, one of People Tree’s largest Fair Trade producer groups, and will be sold exclusively via Keane’s website – www.keanemusic.com.

They will be available to pre-order from Monday, July 6 priced £25 and will be released from the beginning of August. There will be a limited edition run of only 500, with some available to purchase on Keane’s Canadian tour, which kicks-off in September.

Keane’s lead vocalist, Tom Chaplin, said: “We were delighted to work with People Tree and 999 on our tour t-shirts. We’re passionate about being as ethical as possible, across our packaging and merchandise, so we thought it fitting to work with the world’s most pioneering Fair Trade fashion brand.”

999 is also currently working with People Tree on a co-branded autumn / winter 2009 collection, which will see both companies liaising closely across a broader range of products.
