Agencies in Yorkshire are backing this month's SH! Awards, the annual showcase for young creatives looking to break into the industry.

Curated by Leeds ad agency Brahm, the awards take place on 25 June and are free to enter for second or final year students of advertising, design or digital courses in Yorkshire. All they need to do is submit their best piece of coursework.

Entrants will get their work in front of agencies including Elmwood, Thompson, Iris Associates, B&W Studio, Numiko, Made by Pi and twentysix, which will together create a shortlist. Prizes include a six-month paid placement at Brahm.

John Morgan, chief executive at Brahm, said: “There is some outstanding new design, digital and advertising talent in Yorkshire's colleges and universities, but all too often, come graduation those designers migrate south in search of work.

“With no entry fees, and no extra work to do, the Sh! Awards are a unique way to help new designers kick start their career and to keep that talent here in Yorkshire.”

Morgan added that there had been a record number of entries submitted this year.

Past winners have gone on to work client side for BT, McCain and Schwarzkopf and with agencies including Brahm, Love, Thompson, B&W Studio, Elmwood and Interbrand.

The awards were established seven years ago in memory of Stuart Hocknell, a member of the Brahm design team who died of meningitis aged 28.

The event aims to raise funds to support the Meningitis Research Foundation.
