This weekend sees the launch of a new campaign by True North for the National Portrait Gallery in London.

The new campaign asks people to 'Take another look' at the Gallery and its Collection.

Research also shows that National Portrait Gallery visitors enjoy picking up new and often surprising information or stories behind the portraits; so the campaign reveals a selection of 'surprising facts' about a cross-section of sitters whose portraits are on display.

There is a diverse range of sitters featured in the work, from Lord Kitchener to Lily Allen.

By communicating surprising facts and stories with wit (did you know that Kitchener, as well as a great military leader also developed a pattern for seamless socks, or that Lily Allen trained as a florist?), viewers are encouraged to 'take another look' at the story of the subject, at the Gallery and at its Collection.

The campaign uses either 'long story' or 'short fact' versions on poster sites around London, supported by print and online versions, to reflect the Gallery's positioning as a forward thinking institution that celebrates and helps to connect a nation's past, present and future with intelligence and charm.

Martin Carr, True North managing director says that this has been a fun campaign to work on. "The task of 'opening up' such a well-loved institution has been one we've relished. We've worked hard with Gallery staff to eke out a range of good stories for this campaign and there are plenty more where they came from - it's been great fun layering on witty and enjoyable stories over all styles of portraits of all kind of famous Britons."
