The Drum has learned that BJL has promoted Tom Richards and Pete Bastiman to co-creative directors of the agency while Billy Mawhinney is to become executive creative director.

Mawhinney announced the changes to the agency today and said that he would be looking to support Richards and Bastiman in their new roles while allowing him to do more for the agency ‘on a broader front’.

Mawhinney has headed up the creative department of BJL since March last year when he moved from Leo Burnett. He quickly recruited Richards and Bastiman from TBWA\Manchester and earmarked them both to head up the department in the future.

“I love Pete and Tom and know they have every quality necessary to succeed as creative directors," Mawhinney said. "They are talented, tenacious and trustworthy and I look forward to helping them achieve all their ambitions at BJL."

Both have been appointed to the board alongside the agency's planning director Lisa Tomlinson and group account director Amanda Sankey.
