The Granite City may be best known for its oil and gas industry, but the creative sector can certainly hold its own. Here we invited a number of Aberdeen-based creatives to outline their favourite piece of recent work.

1. PICTURENATURE

These images have been created by Clifton Mair, a professional photographer based in Aberdeen who also runs photography workshops in Aberdeenshire for PictureNature. The seagulls were trying to get food which was thrown in the air. By using multiple exposure, a simple bird has turned into something surreal. An international singer/composer in world music is now making her choice for one image to be used on the cover of her new album.

2. COVEY MCCORMICK

“My son named his business after me, not even Mrs Branson can say that!” What a brilliant name for a company, we just couldn’t resist developing Doris as the face of Mother Technologies, resulting in the best client quote of all time.

Steve Redhead, managing director of Mother, the Aberdeen based IT and telecoms company is even quoted as saying: “I never knew spending money could be so much fun!”

3. HAMPTON ASSOCIATES

A campaign produced to improve the internal communication of TOTAL’s Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) vision.

The aim of the campaign was to create an identity and roll out programme to launch and maintain the profile of the five key areas of the SHE Plan.

TOTAL was looking for an innovative look that captured the idea of key components creating something bigger than the individual parts as a way to promote the SHE vision in a new and creative way.

4. GRAY'S SCHOOL OF ART

Two examples of work by final year students studying Scultpture at Gray’s School of Art. The works by Alice Spicer and Keiran McCruden are just two of the pieces which will be on display at the higher education institution’s degree show, set to run in June.

To gain experience of leading their own exhibition the students led an exhibition of this work in an Aberdeen shopping centre using their own initiative outside the Art School.

5. THE BIG PICTURE

A major Scottish charity, Cornerstone is a leading provider of services for people with learning disabilities. The Big Picture recently designed Cornerstone’s new brand, providing creative time free, and is rolling out an HSE campaign, sponsored by Talisman Energy. This will deliver engaging safety messages using the charming new safety ‘spokesman’.

6. TRICKER PR

Eye-catching photography, and securing the Scottish Parliament for the final, led to the Big Green Challenge renewables debating competition being a high profile campaign. Tricker PR’s creative approach attracted more than 40 school teams to enter from across the Highlands and Bebo pages and live Holyrood TV broadcast of the final gave great depth of coverage.
