Crown Paints has promoted its UK marketing controller, Liz Hickson, to the board-level role of marketing director.

Hickson, who has been at the Lancashire-based firm for 15 years in various senior sales and marketing roles, will be responsible for all aspects of the company's marketing strategy across its complete paint and woodcare portfolio in trade and retail sectors.

Company chairman, Graham Hallworth, said: “We recognised that Liz was uniquely qualified for this key position and we’re delighted to welcome her to the board. Her wealth of experience and expertise will be invaluable as we refocus our attention on our brands, our ‘key equity’ in this business, and determine a very clear investment and development strategy for the future."

The appointment is part of a major restructuring programme at the company, which makes the Crown, Sadolin, Sandtex and Berger products, following its buyout from Dutch conglomerate Akzo Nobel, backed by private equity house Endless LLP.

Crown's marketing activity includes a three-year sponsorship deal with Premier League football club Blackburn Rovers. Signed last March, the deal is worth up to £5m to the club depending on the team's performance.
