Midlands agency RBH has petitioned the Prime Minister to introduce the long-discussed car scrapping scheme which would give each new car buyer up to £2,000 towards their purchase if they scrap a car over nine years old.

As the car industry struggles during the current recession with sales in the UK down by 30%, the agency is looking for the launch of an initiative similar to those being run in other European countries.

As a result, the agency has launched a petition on the Number 10 website which currently has around 1,000 signatures supporting the proposal to introduce the scheme.

Debra Hepburn, managing director at RBH, said: “RBH has a long and proud history of working with the automotive industry and we have helped dealers to sell cars for around 15 years. We believe this scheme plays an important part in ensuring the future of both the manufacturers and the retail networks.”
