Following the news that Don Smith, co-creative director of The Union is to leave in April to join digital agency Realise, the agency has announced how it plans to fill the void he leaves behind.

Ruth Yee will be promoted within the creative department to the newly formed role of head of art with immediate effect.

The agency also recently brought on board a graduate creative team, Rachel Dutton and Debbie Castaldo as well as hiring designer Jenny Kelloe, and it plans to continue to hire in this Vein.

Andrew Lindsay, executive creative director of The Union, commented: “Don spoke to me about his desire to move into the digital space and I understand perfectly that when you get an itch you need to scratch it. It's very sad to see Don go but it gives me the opportunity to reward an equally talented member of the creative department, Ruth is a brilliant award winning Art Director and her work recently on Child Protection, Historic Scotland, Visit Scotland, Homecoming Scotland and Jura Malt Whisky has helped us to be voted Scotland’s most awarded creative department. Our creative director Michael Hart and Ruth will help me to continue to raise our standards.”

Ian McAteer, Group chairman at The Union, added, “We’re all sad to see Don go, and he leaves with our warm wishes and thanks for his contribution to The Union’s success. Realise is an excellent business and I’m sure Don will make his mark there.”
