STV today announced that Mark Gorman has joined the broadcaster in a consultancy role.

The appointment follows news last week that Gorman has also recently accepted a role at Manchester design firm Corporation Pop as a board director.

Appointed by STV’s commercial director David Connolly, Gorman will work closely with the sales and business development team on a part-time basis, providing input on sales and sponsorship initiatives, and in-house commercial production with the production team, STV creative.

Gorman is the proprietor of marketing consultancy, Think Hard and has held a number of senior posts in his career including MD of 1576 Advertising, which he co-founded in 1994 before leaving in 2003, and CEO of IAS SMARTS. He is currently chairman of The Scottish Marketing Association and is an ex chairman of the Scottish IPA.

Gorman said: “Clearly the opportunity to work with one of Scotland’s iconic brands and the medium with the biggest reach is an exciting and refreshingly new challenge for me. I’m impressed with the way that STV is facing up to the challenges of the current economy and I’m really enjoying the creative challenges that this role throws up with a really forward looking team of people.”

David Connolly added: “Mark is an expert in his field and I’m delighted that he is joining us on a consultancy basis. The direction of STV sales is to become a more rounded and comprehensive sales operation going forward, with an awareness of all advertising and marketing opportunities, and a regular dialogue and engagement with the advertising community. It’s not just about spot advertising; it’s about offering a full service to clients. With his wealth of experience, knowledge and contacts, I’m confident Mark will have an impact on our business.”
