Manchester United is urging its fans to 'follow in the footsteps of greatness' to promote attractions at its Old Trafford stadium outside match days.

The message is part of a new campaign, created by TBWA\Manchester, to encourage fans and tourists to visit the football club's museum and take a tour of its Old Trafford ground, even when the team is not playing.

The work features the team's supporters in unlikely places around the club. One fan is pictured in the dugout sitting next to manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, while another can be seen running out of the tunnel alongside his United idols Rooney, Ferdinand and Nani.

The creative tempts fans to take the same steps - through the tunnel, into the changing rooms - as their heroes.

Sharon Burns, venue marketing manager for Manchester United, said: “We understand that some fans’ appetite for the club is insatiable. The campaign offers an opportunity to ‘access all areas’ and reminds fans that they can immerse themselves in the rich history of the world’s most famous club."

Fergus McCallum, newly appointed CEO of TBWA\Manchester, added: “It’s not only a great opportunity to target the fans; it also gives the club an opening into untapped markets. From school visits through to tourists, the campaign aims to push revenue-generation even further for the club.”

The campaign will break early February and run throughout press and within the club experientially.
