The Drum understands that Sportingbet has appointed its £10million pan-European media planning and buying account to MediaCom.

It is understood that the media buyer has been tasked with handling media for the company’s website brands such as Sportingbet.com and Paradisepoker.com and that much of the account will be handled by Mediacom Scotland.

The bulk of the budget, around 85% is expected to be spent advertising online and it is thought that the agencies short listed by Creativebrief which ran the pitch, was looking for a company which had experience in digital as well as above-the-line spend.

The main spend will focus on the UK, although it will also run in markets such as France, Russia, Germany and Italy and follows the US Congress’s anti-online gambling law, The Safe Port Act, which prevents credit card companies from processing payments to gambling companies.

The pitch process was handled by Sportingbet’s European marketing director, Ed Luck who joined in February from Orange where he was marketing proposition director.

A spokesperson for Sportingbet confirmed the appointment.
