Bryan Gray, chairman of the North West Regional Development Agency, is to become the new chairman of Peel Media, the developers behind MediaCityUK.

Last week it was revealed that Brian Greasley, the managing director of MediaCityUK, was to step down from the role after a year in the job. Gray will lead the search for his successor.

Andrew Simpson, group managing director of Peel Holdings and acting MD of Peel Media, said in a statement: “Bryan Gray already has an in-depth knowledge of MediaCityUK and we are delighted that he has agreed to be chairman of Peel Media.

"Bryan brings with him a wealth of experience in both the private and public sectors that will be invaluable as the development moves forward.”

Gray added: "MediaCityUK is a major transformational project for the region, which will create significant economic benefits and drive major growth in the north west’s creative and digital industries’ sector.

"I am pleased now to take up this position as chairman of Peel Media to continue to support the delivery of the project.”

Gray, who is also pro chancellor of Lancaster University and chairman of Liverpool Capital of Culture, will join up with Peel next month. He will continue in his role as NWDA chairman after having his contact renewed for another year by business secretary, Lord Mandelson, earlier this week.

Peel says its vision is to make MediaCity, based at Salford Quays, 'the largest purpose-built media community in the UK and Europe'.
