BBC Scotland is broadcasting its evening news programme ‘Reporting Scotland’ live from Helmand for a week, with presenter Jackie Bird, and reporter Cameron Buttle covering news and reports from the provence.

It’s a first for BBC Scotland, which has committed a large amount of its annual news budget to the project, and will be broadcasting across its TV and radio news programmes throughout the day, every day for a week.

It’s the first time BBC Scot has sent a presenter to a ‘war zone’, presenting for the best part of a week.

As well as the core broadcast commitments, the MoD has arranged pre-publicity with Scottish newspapers including the Sunday Mail and the Daily Record, as well as blogs and online coverage on the BBC and MoD website.

BBC Scot will also supply some features to BBC network news.

The project is the fruition of eight months of planning and persuading across both the BBC and Government.
