McCann Erickson Manchester is to create social marketing campaigns for the Ashton, Leigh and Wigan Primary Care Trust (PCT) having won the three year, multi-million pound account following a three way pitch.

Following the pitch, which was run by the Central office of Information (COI), the agency has been tasked with delivering a campaign which will initially focus on obesity, while also promoting social marketing initiatives which will cover issues such as alcohol, smoking, heart disease and cancer.

McCann Erickson will work alongside the client’s programme director for social marketing, Marilyn Simpson across all areas of the campaign from execution including insight generation, creative, PR, online, and media planning.

Phil Fraser, head of regional marketing for the COI, commented; “We were thoroughly impressed with the work McCann’s put together for the pitch which was both creative and inspiring. The team at McCann’s has a wealth of social marketing experience and we look forward to benefiting from their knowledge and expertise.”

Marilyn Simpson, programme director for social marketing for the PCT, added: “This is great news for the Ashton, Leigh and Wigan PCT. We are confident that McCann’s will provide us with thought provoking campaigns which will really help to raise awareness of the issues across the PCT area. We hope that these campaigns will provoke real discussion and encourage people to consider the effect of obesity, smoking, cancer and alcohol on their health.”
