Navyblue has announced that it has appointed a new financial director. The Edinburgh office of the company has appointed Julie-Anne Afrin as finance director, taking up the position on 4 August, replacing Ian Dixon who departed recently.

Previously Arfin was at healthcare and pharmaceutical recruitment specialists, PharmaSmart, where, with a seat on the board as financial director, she oversaw the growth of the company from start-up to over £7million turnover in 7 years and to its current position as the pre-eminent recruitment specialists in that sector.

Afrin, who also joins the board, arrives from Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, where she was head of corporate services.

She will report to founding managing partner, Doug Alexander and will maintain a non-executive position at PharmaSmart.

Said Alexander of the appointment to the board “Julie-Anne came to us highly recommended. She is a pragmatic, straightforward person with a great skill set. She stood head and shoulders above the other candidates and I have no doubt that Julie-Anne will make a marked difference for us at Navyblue as we continue to steer our ambitious international growth path.

Alexander continued; “On a personal level, I realise I am not the easiest of people to work with, with a tendency to tell it like it is. But I know that Julie-Anne gets this and has the experience, approach and attitude to cut-through and do an excellent job. And I for one, am really looking forward to working with her.”

Arfin said of her new position; “I had been aware of Navyblue’s good reputation and work for some time. In particular, and through my position at Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, their truly outstanding work for the winning bid to host the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014. Aware that the dynamics of Navyblue had changed quite considerably over the past few months, with its clear ambition to build on their international reputation, it presented me with an ultimate challenge. One that was too good not to be a part of."
