Focus DIY has ended its six-year relationship with Leeds-based agency Gratterpalm with the appointment of Krow Communications as its new lead creative agency.

The incumbent had repitched for the business but was eliminated in the final two-way shoot-out against the London-based Krow.

Gary West, commercial director Focus DIY: “It was a difficult decision to make as both agencies presented outstanding pitches. I believe our decision to appoint Krow Communications as lead creative agency is a reflection of the significant step change in business direction.

"I would like to thank Gordon Bethell, joint managing director of Gratterpalm and his team for their significant contribution, hard work and support over the last five years.”

Commenting on the account departure, Bethell said: “After six years this is obviously disappointing news, especially having helped Focus through so many difficult times during various rounds of store closures and redundancies.

"It has been a significant achievement on our part that Focus has survived whilst the DIY market has gone through a major contraction and other retailers have gone to the wall. I am glad that Gary West, Focus’ commercial director has recognised our ‘significant’ contribution to the business. Following the recent buy-out, for the first time funds are available to invest in the Focus brand and we wish Krow all the best with that new challenge.”

“We have developed considerable expertise in the DIY sector which will be invaluable in the near future. Gratterpalm is having a very strong year with wins including George, Lakeland and LA Fitness already under our belt and looking forward, we are very confident that we will achieve further significant growth in the coming months.”
