Third Eye to make its Marque as agency reveals Dutch launch

Third Eye Design has announced it is to rebrand and expand into Europe with the launch of an Amsterdam office.

The consultancy, which currently employs 25 staff and was recently named the Eastern Digital Scottish Design Consultancy of the Year, has already launched a London and New York office within the last two years.

From this month it is to rebrand as Marque, in a move founder Mark Noe says will reposition the company as a broad-based creative agency.

“To be honest, I never came up with the original Third Eye name and was never particularly happy with it,” he told The Drum. “But it became part of us. However, now we want to develop a name that better reflects our personality.

“The old Third Eye Design name was also restrictive. Marque will allow us to move into other areas. We are already strong in digital. But who says we will not have an architecture offering within the next 10 years.”

So far the company’s international expansion seems to have been a success with the winning of projects for Dow Jones, Chicago Spire and the New York Festival.

It is understood the agency is now also in talks to work with the World Trade Centre redevelopment.

The move to Amsterdam will give it a bridgehead into Europe says Noe: “As a place it makes a lot of sense. It is a great stepping stone into Europe, with several European countries within an hour’s train ride away. And we really love the Dutch.

“They embrace design and have a design-led culture that goes all the way through the education system, which will help us hire talent.”

The new office will be headed up by Joe Burrin, who recently joined the agency from Spin.

As part of the expansion the company has also unveiled a new corporate structure.

Now, instead of each office being a separate legal entity, they will be brought under a single corporate entity.

Noe will remain the main-shareholder however five fellow directors, including Hoss Gifford and Hector Pottie, have now taken equity in the new operation.
