STV has said that it is committed to promoting and broadcasting Scottish Sport following the end of long-running series Scotsport, and further redundancies within its sports broadcasting team.

A spokesperson for the company has confirmed that it is looking to ‘redeploy’ members of the Scotsport production team elsewhere within the company after it chose not to renew its contract with the SPL due to “an overcrowded marketplace”.

The spokesperson also confirmed that the company has an “agreement in principle” with sports satellite channel, Setanta, which rents space within SMG’s offices and to which it supplies facilities, equipment and crew, although declined to reveal further details, following speculation that Setanta could move its contract elsewhere.

Meanwhile, STV has revealed that Alan Clements will join the company on 15 September as head of content following his long-running legal battle.
