The Scottish Design Awards nominations have been announced, showcasing some of the best design to come from Scotland in the last 12 months. Here is just a selection of the nominations.

The nominations for the Scottish Design Awards were announced on Wednesday evening at the Art De Caf in Glasgow’s Merchant City. And this page underlines what makes this event unique. The awards fuse the best of graphical design with architectural design – everything from interiors to annual reporting. This is a reflection of the exciting trend towards convergence that sees a raft of architectural firms look to offer graphical and interior services, and vice versa. An increased number of agencies entered the awards this year, which was reflected in the nominations, with a diverse cross-section of design work shortlisted. Of the 22 graphical agencies receiving nominations, Third Eye Design topped the list with six nominations. Navyblue was next with five nominations, while Tayburn, Elmwood, Hub, Various and GRAS all picked up two nominations each. Other design firms nominated by the judging panel for a Scottish Design Award were, Pointsize Wolffe and Co, Studio LR, Graphical House, Stand, Nevis, Curious Group, So It Begins, One O Clock Gun, Three Brand Design, Collective Architecture, North & East, 999, Perenelle and O-Street. The Emerging Designer of the Year has three finalists this year with Craig Wilson from Navyblue, Richy Lamb from Studio LR and Elmwood’s Graeme Cook making up the shortlist. The judging panel for this year’s awards was chaired by Howdy founding partner Neil Smith, and consisted of Alan Heron, creative director, True North; Andy Ewan, creative director, EwanSearle LLP; Ed Templeton, founder, Red Design; James Henderson, founder, The Brilliant Path Group; Stephen Bell, creative director, Coley Porter Bell. The results of the Scottish Design Awards will be revealed at an awards ceremony at The Corn Exchange, Edinburgh on Friday 16 May.
