Manchester-based Vertigo PR has been acquired by marketing agency MC2, just nine months after it was launched by former Communique PR MD Nathalie Bagnall.

The deal, which is understood to have taken just three weeks to complete, will see the fledgling PR business retain its identity, with Bagnall becoming managing director of the overall MC2 operation.

In a short space of time, Vertigo has established itself as a familiar name on the north west PR scene with Bagnall recently announcing that its turnover had surpassed £250,000. Client wins included Richard Goodall Gallery and STORE aplaceforeverything.co.uk.

Bagnall told The Drum she was looking forward to being an operational MD again, stating that it’s what she does best.

“My intention on launching Vertigo was to become a key national PR force within two years and we are well on our way to achieving that,” said Bagnall. “I could have waited for that to happen organically but the opportunity that the MC2 deal provides is unique in that Vertigo continues to grow while I personally achieve a much wider business remit. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse.”

In the new MC2 structure, current managing director, Mike Perls will move to chief executive officer, while Jenny Morgan will continue as head of PR. The entire Vertigo team will transfer to join the established brand division at The Boardwalk, MC2’s city centre office, with immediate effect

Perls enthused: “Everybody knows of Nathalie’s proven abilities and her track record in running one of the UK’s largest and most successful PR outfits in the past. Now we can harness those skills to further propel MC2’s continued growth and profile.

“The Vertigo brand, in a short period of time, has become a watchword for creativity and success, and to be able integrate this within MC2 as well as signing up a ready-made team of best of class professionals sends a clear message of our ambitions to the market, clients and our own team.”

Vertigo’s arrival is expected to complement MC2’s predominantly professional and B2B client base.
