Marketeer Association: Inside story

With more revelations than an episode of Desperate Housewives and more character analysis than a session with Dr Anthony Clare, June’s Marketeer Association meeting was a very enlightening experience.

Guest speaker Adrian Banger, of Cumbria-based management consultancy Paradigm Partnerships, revealed the secrets behind behavioural research, highlighting it as a way of discovering our individual strengths and weaknesses. He also explained how behavioural research is a starting point for improving personal and business efficiency.

Before the meeting, Marketeer Association members completed online questionnaires which gave them with a full report on their own behavioural styles. At the meeting, these reports were explained by Banger, who revealed how specific factors and their ‘style analysis’ charts fed into a ‘success insight wheel’ that pinpoints the natural and learned strengths of the questionnaire respondents. Members were also able to contact Banger later for one-to-one feedback on the reports so they would be able to get maximum value from their profiles.

From the topic of communication with each other, the next Marketeer Association meeting, in September, moves on to communication with customers – specifically retailing. The very special guest speaker will be Jonathan Sands, the world-famous chairman of multi-award-winning, Leeds-based brand-identity consultancy Elmwood, the host agency for this meeting.

Sands is one of the leading men in his field, a government advisor and someone often found travelling the world, advising clients and speaking at conferences from France and Holland to Mexico, America, China, Japan, Singapore and Australia.

A former chairman of the Design Business Association, a non-executive director of Networking For Industry and a past member of the Royal Society For The Encouragement Of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce council, Sands is also a current member of the Design Council, for which he chairs the skills panel. He was awarded an honourary science doctorate by Huddersfield University in 2002 for his contribution to the design industry.

As someone from over here doing very well over there – that is in America – Sands also sits on Wal-Mart’s strategy council for the Americas, where he is mentor to the company’s director of strategy.

In identity, literature and packaging design, Elmwood is in the top five for all UK awards, and The Sunday Times recently named it as one of the best UK companies to work for. Clearly, September’s meeting will be one not to miss. Watch this space for more details…
