Chip Shop Awards

For those not in the know, the concept of the Chip Shop Awards arrived when, fifteen years ago, somewhere in the north of Wales, a tired old chippie called Barnacles was going under. Terminally lacking in the wow department, it was being murdered by the local trendy fast food outlets.

Long story short – one brilliant, but unpaid, re-branding exercise later, a born-again Barnacles was busting the chops of every pizza house, fried chicken shack and burger bar for miles. As for the canny creatives... their cocky x-rated campaign did for cod suppers what Bill Clinton did for cigars. It was excellent work which netted a catch of trophies. Having proved that chip shop work’s gotta lotta poke, they went on to live happily ever after as creative directors of some of the biggest ad agencies around.

Anyway, this year the Awards were thrown open to agencies across the globe, attracting entries from all over Europe and the States. With the nominations now announced, The Drum profiles just a small selection of the work nominated for awards by the high-profile judging panel.
