The Association currently has 31 members, with four new members, Lake Design, Leeds Media, Big Communications and Clock Creative Communications Ltd, joining up in the past month; all are committed to bringing clients and their budgets to agencies based in key centres outside of London in order to grow the agency scene.

While the ideas that have been presented to the Association at the moment have a Northern slant – it also should be noted that the Association has been set up to benefit every agency outside of the M25, as is the readership of Adline.

Following on from the brief being set three member agencies, Like a River, Vivid and Funnel Creative, returned with a solution to the brief presented their findings to the other members of the association.

Like a River presented the idea of the ‘marketing shift’, which was presented to the Association in the form of a business card, to show how the idea could start off small and be built upon.

Vivid in turn wanted to highlight the mantra of this magazine, ‘there is life outside of London’, while at the same time make sure that there was no negativity associated with London agencies. The idea suggested by the Manchester-based agency was a key identity that agencies could use; by saying no to London the slogan ‘LNOdon’ was formed. A further suggestion that was welcomed by other agency members was ‘NorthON’ – an identity that could be used in many branding exercises.

Finally, Funnel Creative presented the idea of an ambient event entitled ‘Lights ON’ – where lights across Manchester would be switched off, and the only available light would come from the stars; the Northern leading lights would therefore be showcased.

While all three have been met with enthusiasm from the Association, Adline has now opened this up for discussion to the wider agency community.

Commenting on the brief that was set, Gordon Young, founder of the Marketeer Association and publisher of Adline, said: \"We are committed to helping the industry grow, and by releasing the brief to members of the Association we are showing that we are totally committed to this project. In the past month alone we have already had five new member agencies sign up which is absolutely fantastic and shows that people really are committed to the cause.

\"The work that has been presented so far has been excellent in taking the Association further, while proving that there really is a life and a huge amount of talent outside of London.\"
