Are Renfield Street's days numbered?

Glasgow City Council is understood to be considering ways to ensure that Scottish Television maintains its headquarters and studio facilities in Glasgow city centre.

Executives at Scottish Television are believed to be considering leaving the Renfield Street premises, in which it has resided for the last 30 years, after a review of its future property needs.

Research and project management company Georgeson is to commence research amongst staff at Scottish TV on 18 August to find out what kind of premises they feel would be best for the business. Their findings are expected by the end of the year.

Due to the development of digital camera and editing technologies, Scottish Television no longer needs a base in the city centre and such a move would serve as another blow to the standing of Glasgow as Scotland’s media capital. Following the review, bosses at Scottish TV are considering four options, two of which involve a refurbishment of the current Renfield site, while the other two include relocation to an existing building elsewhere or relocation to a purpose-built site.
