DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

4creative is the multi-awarded, highly creative, in-house agency for Channel 4. It forms part of the Marketing and Communications Division.

Within that, 4creative is responsible for developing and delivering all advertising campaigns and channel packaging for Channel 4 in every media. As such, 4creative plays a key role in projecting a coherent sense of the 4-brand family.

JOB PURPOSE

The Social Video Director will devise original and outstanding creative to advertise upcoming shows and promote the Channel 4 family of brands as part of 4creative’s industry-leading and award winning digital and social campaigns.

Part of Channel 4’s remit is to drive innovation, and a key part of the role is to ensure that this is being met in 4Creative’s social video output. The role requires advanced and up-to-date knowledge of current trends, creative best practice for social media formats and a good understanding of how audiences behave online.

The creative output is a mix of clips-based promos using content from shows and original material. No matter what the solution, the output should be crafted from a social first perspective, optimised for how the viewer will engage.

This role is based in the Leeds office and the job holder will be required to liaise with the broad team on any given project including the Marketing team as well as with all Channel 4 departments, to ensure as coherent an approach as possible.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attending creative briefs to understand what the marketing challenges are and how we can creatively solve them. Potentially these will be remotely over video calls.
  • Watching source material before cutting promotions for social formats.
  • Responding to creative briefs for integrated campaigns.
  • Writing scripts and treatments for conceptual social ideas.
  • Presenting ideas to Creative Directors, Marketing, Commissioning and key stakeholders. Potentially these will be remotely over video calls.
  • Helping ensure consistent messaging and brand tone of voice across all platforms and formats.
  • Helping build collaboration throughout 4creative and marketing.
  • Delivering consistent high-quality creative to tight deadlines.
  • Providing creative leadership on edits and potentially on shoots if required.
  • Collaborating with Producers, Creatives and Marketing to ensure everyone is aligned on the creative vision.
  • Ability to take responsibility for and creatively oversee projects from inception to delivery with the support of 4creative’s Creative Director’s and the Executive Producer, Digital.
  • Helping to ensure consistent messaging, brand values and tone of voice across campaigns and all media.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Excellent Premiere editing ability (Avid desired but not essential).
  • After Effects and motion graphics knowledge.
  • InDesign and / or Photoshop (Desired but not essential).
  • Strength in copy and script writing.
  • Experience of directing, shoots, VO and working with crew (Desired but not essential).
  • Social media experience within Broadcast or Advertising Agencies.
  • Mac & PC literate.
  • Passionate about social media, digital marketing and advertising.
  • Must be an early-adopter of digital and social technologies.
  • Understanding of content audiences engage with online.
  • Proactive and show a willingness to seek out and learn about digital & social trends.
  • Experience of creating high profile work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to organise time and projects effectively.
  • Understanding of Channel 4 brands.
  • Interest in music and popular culture.
  • Understanding of video production and post production workflows.

Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making

  • Will make creative decision but have the support of Creative Directors, Digital Producers and the Executive Producer Digital, when required. 

Relationship Management

  • Works regularly with a mixture of people from immediate team, marketing, commissioning and third party suppliers. Sometimes remotely and sometimes in person.
  • Must be willing to travel between Leeds to London as and when required.
  • Ability to manage and respond to feedback quickly and constructively.
  • Working closely with production to ensure smooth process.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Positive can do attitude.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior staff as and when required.

Complexity/Problem Solving

  • Flexible approach and enjoys finding creative solutions to challenges.
  • Ability to organise time and projects effectively.

Channel 4 in Leeds

Once fully operational in 2020, the National HQ will be based at the iconic Majestic building in City Square and will have key creative and digital departments at its heart.

From October 2019 C4 staff will be based in the newly refurbished West Gate on Grace Street until our new home is ready.

This is an exciting time to join Channel 4 - best known for being a public-service, free-to-air television network including E4, Film4, and More4. In October 2018, Channel 4 announced that we had selected Leeds to be the location of our new National Headquarters to boost the way the Corporation reflects life outside of London.
