Disney is preparing the global launch of Marvel Studio’s Captain Marvel - its first female-led superhero movie. Vodafone was approached to collaborate ahead of the movie’s worldwide release on International Women’s Day 2019.

Vodafone has created a digital campaign to support the launch of Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel across 18 of its markets. The collaboration will feature a series of short films using scenes from the new Captain Marvel movie, starring Brie Larson and Samuel L Jackson.

At the end of the content, a series of real-life heroes are featured, each part of Vodafone’s goal to support 50 million women before 2025. They include a mother from Egypt who learned to read through a mobile-based literacy programme from the Vodafone Foundation; a woman in Tanzania who became a successful entrepreneur after setting up her own business using M-Pesa mobile money; and a student in the Democratic Republic of the Congo who used her smartphone and the Vodafone Foundation’s Instant Schools mobile learning programme to study for her diploma, joining the 4% of girls in the DRC who study for a degree.

Vodafone is also supporting the launch of Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel using the hashtag #ConnectedSheCan, and asking women globally to nominate their own real-life heroes using the hashtag #MySuperhero on social media.
