Everyone’s talking about Apollo 11 but this is the story they’re not talking about - Velcro is a household name now but 50 years ago, it was a startup brand working with Nasa on the moon landing. To celebrate Velcro’s role, the brand created a cover of The Police song Walking On the Moon by the indie cover band Walk Off The Earth, featuring Velcro Brand fasteners for a one-of-a-kind, distinctive sound.

The video is being shared on Velcro Brand’s social platforms and the ad campaign is running through September.

The hook and loop fasteners kept astronauts in their space boots, adhered heat shields, as a wristband for the iconic Omega Speedmaster, attached breathing tubes to the space suit and even served as a nose scratcher inside astronauts’ helmets.

Items include Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit with Velcro on front, Buzz Aldrin’s spacesuit with Velcro on the back, Omega Speedmaster chronograph watch with Velcro strap and Apollo extravehicular mobility unit repair kit with Velcro.
