Rare intimate photos of the acclaimed artist Jean-Michel Basquiat are to be auctioned as NFTs (non-fungible tokens) during this year’s Art Basel event in Miami, Florida.

The Bishop Gallery has partnered with Triller, a marketplace where users can purchase digital collectibles, to unveil the rare photos of the artist as part of the ‘Our Friend, Jean’ exhibition. For fans of Basquiat, this NFT auction provides an opportunity to see him in a personal way like never before.

Kicking off on November 29, Triller and The Bishop Gallery will host the exclusive experience showcasing work by Basquiat, which will be on loan from collectors including Al Diaz who is co-creator of Samo (a graffiti tag originally used on the streets of New York City by Diaz and Basquiat which encompassed poetic short phrases and satirical advertising slogans).

During the immersive gallery experience 'Our Friend Jean', there will be live discussions with Basquiat's close friends including Jane Diaz, Hilary Jaeger, Katie Taylor, Lucy Sante, and photographer Alexis Adler who also served as co-curator. Over twenty pieces of art will be displayed, including drawings, writings, apparel, and mixed media collages. Through these works, each collector will be sharing uniquely intimate stories of their friend, Jean.
