KFC is topping of a stellar year of advertising with a Christmas campaign that will see it wish people luck with cooking a turkey on the 25 December.

Last year, KFC ran a single hero-TV spot taking inspiration from a Western film which saw a chicken pitted against a turkey

This this year, the Mother London-created advertising push will instead consist of five 10 second ads that will run on TV, social and OOH.

They range from the nightmare of trying to defrost a turkey on time, to fitting it in an oven and carving it.

“Burnt, overdone, chewy, dry… we’ve all got a turkey horror story. And they’re usually enough to keep any family’s designated chef up all Christmas Eve,” said Kate Wall, head of advertising and retail at KFC UK and Ireland.

“This year we wanted our Christmas campaign to take an irreverent, cheeky look at the ritual that has become ‘Christmas Turkey’. Wishing everyone good luck with the turkey on 25th December. ‘Cos until then we’ve got you.”

It wraps up a year which saw the fast-food chain run a number of highly lauded ad campaigns. ‘Chicken Town’ from April told the story of “the original chicken don” who takes to the streets to assess KFC’s competition. It followed that up with the youth-focused ‘What the Cluck’ and then a print campaign encouraging people to try its bacon cheeseburger before they all go vegan.
