With the launch of Gruesome Gotham, Firstborn is bringing historic 19th Century New York crime scenes to life through a location-based AR adventure shot in the style of the old 'Jack the Ripper' crime genre aesthetic.

The app is an AR scavenger hunt of sorts, revealing a map of chilling murders that takes users to the actual scene of the crime where they use the app to unlock a narrated scene of a famous murder in NYC crime history. Within the app, the location-based AR lets you see each murder in the exact locations where they occurred. There is also a “read all about it” newspaper section of the app written in a tone fit for the tabloids of the time so users can learn more about the crimes they’re witnessing. An ominous narrative voice accompanies each scene to explain the killings in detail as you view.

Created with the help of Apple’s ARKit, the app is free to download for iPhone only. Users can either download the app through the game’s microsite, www.gruesomegotham.com or directly through the store.
