Independent creative design agency Deep has collaborated with the Royal Hospital Chelsea to create a publication in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of D-Day. It will be distributed at the annual Founder's Day ceremonial parade and RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

The project, part of Deep’s ongoing work with the Hospital, tells the story of D-Day from the unique perspectives of four Chelsea Pensioners who fought during the Allied campaign in 1944.

The process began with portraiture sessions of the four individuals. High contrast lighting was used to expose every fine line and pore, highlighting the lives and experiences of each veteran, and to capture a sense of contemplation in the photographs. Each portrait is accompanied by a story of D-Day, told in the words of the individual photographed. These personal recollections emphasise the real human impact of what happened on 6 June 1944.
