Ikawa has launched an ‘at home’ digital micro coffee roasting machine for coffee enthusiasts, who can now roast and blend their own coffee using the coffee bean roaster and an accompanying app to share and explore the art of coffee roasting.

After a Kickstarter campaign and two years in development, Ikawa approached design agency Carter Wong to create their product packaging. As with all emerging categories, the visual codes are yet to be defined so the team had no constraints to be like any other kitchen appliance.

Identifying the need to focus on building brand visibility to make the Ikawa name synonymous with the category, Carter Wong used the simplicity of Ikawa’s red logo and super-sized it, wrapping it round their pack, making it feel fun, premium and memorable.

They also updated the website to be more focused on the process of roasting, the producers and the community that surrounds the app. A short film (created with Gavin MacKinnon Little of Bread and Butter Pictures) on the homepage helps to show how the product works
