Mid-Weight Web Developer (Symfony)

The Drum is actively looking for a Mid-Weight Developer with solid experience of Symfony to join its world class digital team in Glasgow.

The Drum is Europe’s biggest marketing website, with a fair chunk of international traffic, too.  We also provide a range of publishing services, and our awards and events are legendary in the marketing world.  In addition to strong growth across the UK, we are rapidly expanding in North America and Asia.  It’s an exciting time to join us, and the opportunities truly are endless.

At The Drum, we believe the key to our success is our people, and we are investing heavily in our digital team.  We are looking to appoint an Mid-level Developer with Symfony experience to work alongside a standout group of developers in our Glasgow office.

The role will involve working within a dedicated, enthusiastic team to build features and functionality across the company’s platforms.  In addition, you’ll be instrumental in developing new ideas and making them a reality.  This is a great opportunity for a developer with the skills for creating solutions in a fast-paced environment.

You will work closely with developers, designers, and a range of wider teams to develop our business assets.  Strong team-working and communication skills are a must.

Education

Candidates will preferably be educated to degree level in Computer Science, Web Development, or similar.

Skills required

The ideal candidate will also fulfil the following criteria:

  • At least two years’ experience building high quality web applications in Symfony, and ideally further experience in PHP
  • A good understanding of software design patterns and architecture and how they are applied in web applications
  • Expertise with relational databases. Experience with document databases is also desirable
  • Experience using and building RESTful APIs
  • Experience with and a good understanding of modern JavaScript technologies and best practice
  • Expertise with modern HTML5 and CSS3 techniques is required
  • Experience with version control, preferably git
  • Experience with at least one unit testing framework
