The basic idea behind authorship and Google Accounts is to create a unity in the online activity of the account so that Google can understand whether you are real or not and then assess your impact on the web. Changing your name (which you are allowed to do) would not adversely affect the account's power (so to speak) and whatever change it undergoes, will soon have it recover.
