Content discovery platform Outbrain analyses One Direction's content footprint to coincide with album launch
As One Direction launch their third album ‘Midnight Memories’ on both sides of the Atlantic within hours of each other, content discovery platform Outbrain has revealed that the UK remains the heartland of the 1D fanbase.
Pulling together the total number of page views in its network on the run-up to the album launch (12-19 November) Outbrain found whilst there is growing interest in the band’s latest musical offering people are still discovering content through their own individual favourite band member. Zayn Malik is the most read about member of the band, with 927 page views per story published.
Despite Harry Styles regularly totting up the column inches, he was found to be the third most read about band member behind Malik and Louis Tomlinson who scored 360 page views per story. Styles took third place with 296 page views per story, and Niall Horan and Liam Payne followed with 270 and 64 page views respectively.
During the week of 12 November to 19 November UK 1D fans consumed seven times as much 1D content as any other country; except Australia which UK fans read only twice as much content as. An album leak on Monday 18 November saw stories about 1D contribute to 0.5 per cent of total page views in the UK.
Internationally Harry Styles is the most popular band member in France, with Niall Horan stealing that title in Spain.
Outbrain’s analysis of 1D’s worldwide online fanbase follows Saturday’s 1D Day where the band took part in a seven-hour live stream on YouTube complete with Zappar augmented reality (AR) content.
