Australians spent $7.61 billion on online shopping last year, according to the Australian Bureau of statistics.

The figures relate to goods bought online to the value of less than $1000.

The ABS only started tracking the country’s online shopping habits last year.

“The retail landscape is continuously changing – from store reinvention and the emergence of new concepts to the use of in-store technology to create a branding story,” said Smart Company’s Mark Friedkin.

He added there is : “clear evidence that the retailer is moving away from a one-size-fits-all model.”

“Online shopping clubs, including upstarts like DashLuxe, represent a threat to stores online.

“Mobile, magazine marketing and online shopping clubs, m-commerce and s-commerce (social commerce) are the immediate future trends.”
