Since the birth of the prince of Cambridge, #RoyalBaby has been trending on Twitter. In fact, it has been used over one million times, peaking at 25,300 tweets per minute at 8.37pm on the evening of the announcement. Pretty impressive. However, despite it seeming like all our social media feeds are now filled with royal baby posts, the event has not been as popular as other news stories from the past year. The election of Pope Francis I peaked at 132,000 tweets per minute back in March, Andy Murray's win at Wimbledon last month resulted in120,000 tweets per minute and Usain Bolt’s 100m Olympic record seen 88,000 tweets sent per minute Topping the popularity chart though is Barack Obama, whose re-election in November elicited a massive 327,452 tweets per minute following the official announcement.
