To coincide with Ramadan and promote healthier living authorities in Dubai are encouraging people to lose weight by offering them their weight loss equivalent in gold.

The 30-day scheme, entitled Your Weight in Gold, sees participants given a gram of gold – which is currently worth around £30 – for each kilogram lost.

To qualify you must lose at least two kilos to receive two grams of gold, each further kilogram lost within the 30 day period is rewarded with another gram of gold. The three who lose the most weight will then be entered into a prize draw to win a gold coin worth $5,400.

Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group and Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) are sponsoring the activity.

DMCC’s director general, Hussain Nasser Lootah, commented: “Ramadan is the most appropriate season to launch such initiatives as it reminds us about many health benefits of reducing weight and encourages us to take strong steps to change our bad lifestyles.”
