French social petwork, YummyPets, developed exclusively for those who have a love of animals, has launched in the UK.

YummyPets aims to give animal lovers a platform that is fun and easy to interact with others on, but also gives users access to a range of useful and targeted pet services. Users can also have multiple profiles for their different pets, on which they can share photos, post videos and status updates whilst also trading advice with other pet owners on the site.

“When we developed the YummyPets site, we wanted to make sure that pet owners are supported through every step of a pet’s life. This makes YummyPets not only fun, but also a useful and informative place to be,” commented CEO and co-founder of YummyPets, Matthieu Glayrouse.

Already available on the French version of the site and coming soon to the UK iteration are a number of services including classified pet ads, missing pet notices, instant messenger, discussion forums categorised by breed, vet appointment reminders, price comparison on pet supplies, and memorial pages for loved and lost pets.

With 21 staff (including ‘founder’ Leo the cat), YummyPets has received €1.5m (£1.3m) of funding and has 150,000 members, with 600 brands and organisations interacting on the site. Currently one in 10 pets have a social media presence, including Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved cat Choupette who has nearly 27,000 Twitter followers, and recent research from Petplan found a 36 per cent rise in the number of pets on social media.

Mathieu Chollon, YummyPets co-founder, added: “We’re so excited about the move into the UK – especially because the UK is well known to be one of the most pet-loving countries in the world. Pet owners are enjoying having a place for unlimited uploads of pet photos and videos alongside all the other benefits.”

A free mobile app is also available for Android and iOS allowing users to access the site on-the-go. Of the UK launch, Leo the cat meowed: “I thought that the great pets of Great Britain should have the chance to join the social media world and interact as part of a community that knows them best.”
