World Cup celebrations, hedgehog birthday parties & undressing with strangers!
Brand Chart
Despite fine efforts from viral big-hitters Adidas and Old Spice to capitalise on the World Cup Final, this week’s branded chart is topped by a 10 second clip created by German radio station BAYERN 3. Released within minutes of the tournament’s finale, the image of a mighty German stein smashing a Brazilian cocktail has clearly resonated with fans and the video has just topped 15 million views. It’s great to see a simple but perfectly timed idea beating bigger budgets to the top spot, and hopefully it’ll be the last time we hear those samba jingles. Until 2016 at least…
A little further down the chart a whole different online community are getting excited, as the BBC release the Official Full Length Trailer for the 8th series of Doctor Who, which kicks-off on the 23rd of August. Fans are treated to their first proper look at Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, as well as dinosaurs roaming through central London and enough aliens, Daleks and Cybermen to get Whovians everywhere drooling.
UGC & Entertainment
The UGC chart is topped by teen favourite Nash Grier sticking it to his haters in Reading Hate Comments. Further down the Top 10, Tatia PIlieva’s latest video follows up on the huge success of First Kiss with Undress Me, which uses the same formula of moving music, black and white film and complete strangers to create an intimate picture of an awkward moment. Questions have been raised about quite how unknown the “undressers” are, but either way it makes for an effective video.
Next up, our last ever World Cup related video (we promise!) which, in just 17 seconds, perfectly captures the highs and lows of supporting your country. Clovis Fernandes, or “Gaucho” was seen in the crowd during most of Brazil’s games, always accompanied by his World Cup replica and excellent moustache. Following his team’s 7-1 demolition at the hands of Germany his cheery smile was replaced by the heartache of a nation, which Joe Bell has turned into something really moving / hilarious. The story does end nicely, as he was later seen handing his trophy to a young German fan. Lovely.
