Better Together is the new slogan designed to keep Scotland in the United Kingdom. But I suspect the line may have caused a short circuit in the minds of many Scots of a certain age.

In the late 70s to mid 80s a certain campaign for a group of electrical shops was a common fixture on STV. Glen’s Hutchison’s Robertson and Stepek were (are) four separate businesses who clubbed together to buy a bit of telly. Their line? Altogether Better.

Admittedly it was hardly Cannes Award winning stuff. But in their annoying way they did provide some real cut through and perhaps might provide a structure for the Pro-Union drive.

Imagine some spinning graphics and then: ENGLAND! SCOTLAND! WALES! NORTHERN IRELAND! BETTER TOGETHER! (cue electric organ) Dah de dah dah.
