Group Nine Media, a digital-first media company, announced the hiring of Terry City as vice president of sales for the west coast.
City has over 20 years of experience under his belt in media, entertainment, and advertising, most recently serving as senior vice president for digital media company Dose. He also served as vice president for west coast sales at Buzzfeed, managing the outlet’s sales and strategy for teams in Los Angeles, Seattle and San Francisco. City has also held leadership roles at HuffPost, Anheuser Busch, Variety, and the Hollywood Reporter.
Group Nine considered itself one of the largest publishers on social media and is made up of content platforms NowThis, Thrillist, The Dodo, and Seeker.
“Group Nine’s data-driven, customized approach to brand partnerships has given us real momentum on the west coast, and Terry’s unique skill set will be a tremendous asset as we lean into key sectors including entertainment, auto, and tech, said Todd Anderman, Group Nine’s chief revenue officer, who City will be reporting to.
City added, “I’ve been in the digital space for many years and believe that Group Nine is in a really unique position in the marketplace. The company has a diverse portfolio of category-leading brands reaching hyper-engaged audiences — and advertisers are seeing real ROI and value from partnering with Group Nine.” He added, “I’m looking forward to joining this amazing team to help further Group Nine’s awareness and product offerings to existing and future west coast clients.”
This past December, Group Nine added Christa Carone, a WPP and Xerox veteran as its new president.
