Twitter and Snapchat tapped for Fox Sports Fifa World Cup 18 packages

Snapchat and Twitter signed on with Fox Sports

Sports rights seem to be one of the major battlegrounds for the social media and internet companies in 2018. In this vein, Twitter and Snapchat are reported to have won different Fifa World Cup 2018 highlights via Fox Sports in the US.

Twitter announced that it will host an exclusive daily Fox Sports show from presenter Rachel Bonnetta in Moscow’s Red Square during the competition. The show will feature guests like Rob Stone, Landon Donovan, Kate Abdo, Alexi Lalas, Fernando Fiore and others, where they will previde recaps, previews and discussion around the cup’s biggest fixtures.

Another win for Twitter is that it will be provided with real-time video highlights to help attract viewers on social media. Helping fund this, there will be advertising options attached to these clips and the live show.

On working with Twitter, Alexis Ginas, senior vice president of cross-platform solutions at Fox Sports, said: “Our exciting collaboration with Twitter marks a major opportunity to leverage the world’s greatest sports moment and our talent beyond the TV screen.

“Alongside our FOX Sports-owned properties, Twitter will help amplify this summer’s incredible live events programming – 64 matches total at the World Cup. We’ll immerse fans in the ‘beautiful game’ even further through expert analysis and fun, creative content from Moscow.”

Snapchat

Meanwhile Snapchat will publish Fox content on publisher stories, where a magazine like collage of footage will be assembled from the matches. Additionally highlights and key moments will be funneled through Snapchat’s Our Stories section to its predominantly young userbase.

The content will include highlights, previews, recaps and expert analysis, incorporating video, text, artwork and motion graphics.

Ginas added: “Alongside our Fox Sports-owned properties, they’ll help amplify this summer’s incredible live events programming – 64 matches total at the FIFA World Cup.”

The content will only be accessible in the US territory where the rights have been sublicensed.

2018 appears to be the year Snap’s live sports ambitions are met, it will also help deliver the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang with Eurosport in February, helping to deliver the first ‘fully digital’ Games ever.
