As part of the partnership, Google Cultural Institute will showcase the heritage stations on digital platforms and create a digital repository for free and global online access.

Google has already installed six video screens at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Station (CSTM) in Mumbai to showcase the history of these heritage stations through crowd-sourced content.

A senior Railway Ministry official told NDTV gadgets: "A virtual visit will never replace the real thing. But technology can help open up art and culture to everyone and we think that's powerful thing."

Google already provides free Wi-Fi across 100 stations as part of the Digitial India-Digital Rail campaign.
