Through 2020, Calvin Klein can utilize any of Andy Warhol’s works – including previously unpublished works – for various licensing projects through its business lines, as well as future activations within the brand’s portfolio. In turn, the financial commitment will help to fund the Warhol Foundation’s endowment which, since inception, has distributed over $275m in grants that sustain the creation, documentation and presentation of contemporary art.

The first of these iterations was unveiled in September, at chief creative officer Raf Simons’ Calvin Klein ‘205W39NYC’ Spring 2018 runway show. On this partnership, Simons said: “I’ve come to realize that Warhol’s genius goes much deeper than cheerful Campbell’s Soup paintings. He captured all sides of the American experience, including sometimes its darker sides. Warhol’s art tells more truths about this country than you can find almost anywhere else.”

This adds to Warhol’s legacy, and maybe another marketing moment for the man who turned Campbell’s Soup cans into museum fixtures.
