Creative women of the year category added to The Drum Creative Awards to celebrate talent

The category was launched in 2016 to promote diversity within the industry and attracted more than 20 entries this year, with 10 creative women, shortlisted by our judging panel.

The nominees are: Alice Tonge, executive creative director/head at 4creative; Becky McOwen-Banks, creative director at FCB Inferno; Caroline Pay and Vicki Maguire, chief creative officers at Grey London; Charlotte Adorjan, creative director at AMVBBDO; Lizi Hamer, creative director at Octagon; Margaret Johnson, partner, chief creative officer at Goodby Silverstein and Partners; Melissa Ditson, executive creative director at 360i Europe; Resh Sidhu, creative director at Framestore, Shahnaz Ahmed, senior designer at Livity / Knit Aid and Thea Hamrén, creative director at Mr President.

All nominees will be invited to the awards and bring a guest with them, who must be a junior female rising star in the industry. The idea is to promote creative gender equality across different levels of businesses.

Entrants needed to be the creative director of an agency, or have led an award-winning campaign team who are also great at putting the ladder back down and championing diversity within their own teams.

Caitlin Ryan, group executive creative director of Cheil Worldwide was blown away by the candidates, as was the entire judging panel.

She said: “I feel I am pretty clued up on female creative talent out there and I was scribbling down names and feeling exhausted just reading the extra initiatives and accomplishments of these women - on top of all being brilliant creatives.

“It is so true that if your excuse to not hiring female creative talent is: ‘we can’t find them’ you are NOT looking hard enough. They may not be sitting in all the usual places, they are in production companies, tech companies, content companies. They are there. Find them and hire them.”

Another category that got the judges debating was the entries for experiential. This type of marketing is fast becoming the go to for creating connections with consumers and given them brand value.

Nominations for this category are: : AFG Europe, BDH, Cheil Worldwide, Hot Pickle Trading Ltd, Initials, NextBigThing and Taylor Herring Ltd.

The Drum Creative Awards celebrate innovation and strive to give the industry a platform to shine. For a full list of the nominations, please click here.
